A fascinating documentary charting the remarkable historical confluence that led to the rise of German-Japanese co-operation during World War II.

This captivating documentary follows the events which led to the alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan during World War Two. On September 27th 1940, Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito signed a pact which they hoped would lead to their domination of the world, the Axis Pact. The initial idea for this secret pact came from Hitler's world affairs advisor and a man mostly forgotten by history, Karl Haushofer.

Part One of this documentary investigates the key role played by Karl Haushofer, a secretive man who exerted huge influence on all three countries. He was especially relied on by Japan for key strategies, such as Peal Harbour, but he was also Hitler's close advisor, refered to by some as his 'Merlin' due to his supposed influence over Nazi policies.

Part Two: This part of the documentary focuses on Japan's military strategies, such as their development of Japanese fighters and long range bombers and the creation of the top secret, China-based Unit 731 biological warfare group.

This programme provides a fascinating and rarely documented insight into the many secrets of the Axis forces and evaluates the frightening possibility that had their plans succeeded, the Second World War could have had a very different ending.
